Revision rhinoplasty, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to correct complications or unsatisfactory results from a previous rhinoplasty surgery. The procedure is often more complex than a primary rhinoplasty.
Here are the general steps involved in the procedure:
- Evaluation: Patient's previous rhinoplasty surgery and identify the areas that need to be corrected or improved.
- Anesthesia: The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, which means the patient is unconscious and does not feel any pain during the procedure.
- Incisions: Incisions are made inside the nose or in some cases, outside the nose.
- Correction: Then the areas that require improvement are corrected, such as reshaping the cartilage or bone, improving the nasal tip, or adjusting the nasal bridge.
- Closing the incision: Once the corrections have been made, the incisions are closed with sutures or dissolvable stitches.
- Recovery: After the surgery, the patient will be monitored in a recovery room until they are stable enough to go home. Pain medication will be prescribed to manage any discomfort, and the patient may be instructed to follow a special diet and avoid certain activities for several weeks while the nose heals.
The specifics of the procedure may vary depending on the individual case, and the procedure should be tailored to the patient's specific needs. Additionally, the recovery period may be longer than that of a primary rhinoplasty.
